Radio Premier, the official frequency of Takoradi Technical University celebrated its 5th anniversary. The campus based radio station is currently having eight permanent staff, two national service personnel, thirteen interns and is opened for volunteers especially the students of the university.
The August Ceremony graced by the Pro Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, The Board of Radio Premier, The SRC Executive Committee, the Former SRC President for the 2015-2016 academic year and the proud sponsors of the Radio station.
The Pro vice Chancellor in his speech to be originally delivered by the vice chancellor of the university expressed his sincere gratitude to the SRC who mooted the idea for the establishment of the facility and also mentioned that he is proud to have believed in their dream and implemented it in 2015.
He stated that, the importance of the radio Station in the development of the Western Region and especially in the effective functioning and development of the university cannot be overemphasized.
He further expressed his gratitude to the Radio station for its immense contributions made towards teaching and learning particularly during the early periods of Covid-19, when the platform was used for the dissemination of information to the students and the university community at large.
He said, “Throughout the five years journey, I am aware that, you continuously reviewed your mode of operations and have added many more educative programs. You must continue to strategize and deliver on your mandate”
The head of marketing for Adansi Travels, in her speech, announced 5% discount on all trip with the agency in commemoration of the anniversary.
The Board Chairman of Radio Premier, His Lordship Justice Kofi Diaba also congratulated the visionaries, the Staff, SRC and the students. He gave a hint on the establishment of the TV station which will be called Premier TV. He also said, he believes that Premier’s name will be mentioned amongst the top Radio and TV stations in Ghana in the near future.
The Dean of Students Dr. Owusu Ansah Ankrah speaking about some other radio station making several attempts to poach some staff of Premier, advised the staff to add value to themselves to increase their capabilities and standards in the market.
Mr. Reginald Nii Laryea the SRC President for the 2015- 2016 academic year hinted that, this project was a capital intensive one but has gotten to this level by the grace of the Almighty God.
The Regional Manager for Ghana Red Cross Society, showed the appreciation of his management to Radio Premier for being the only radio station that gave them free and constant airtime during the early stages of covid-19 to sensitize the general public as well as to educate the general public of some first aid tips and about 50 schools also learning about first aid through lessons and quizzes hosted by Radio premier which these students can deliver when called up on.
The SRC vice president Hensley Hammond, in his submission said, Premier is one of the biggest assets of the SRC which also helps to train students in the field of presenting, disk jockeying and other activites related to broadcast journalism. He also admonished incoming executives to help in making the dream of establishing the TV station a reality.
The pro vice chancellor in his closing remarks prayed that more successes would be chocked by the time a meeting is convened in the name of Premier.
Mr. George Fergusson Laing, the presenter of the Drive show on premier 100.5 in the vote of thanks encouraged students to patronize and take advantage of the radio station since it is theirs.
